While it took us a while to find the property, once we met Shoichi all was great! His English was very good and made communication easy. He was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us great advise and directions to everything we wanted to do. He made reservations for us for dinner twice over our four day stay and provided us with everything we needed to make our time at Grandwest Arashiyama the best it could possibly be. Other staff were very friendly and helpful as well. Our room as wonderful. Really, it was a huge and well appointed apartment with all the amenities of a hotel. We highly recommend staying at this property. Arashiyama can be a bit crowded and busy, but this hotel in a quiet neighborhood, with a lovely walk near the river and across a charming bridge over to the town, let's you feel like a local. Plus the coffee and breakfast at their beautiful on site coffee shop was the best we had over our entire one month stay in Japan.

We stayed here with our 4 year old daughter. Prior to arrival date, we only requested for a parking space. We didn’t request anything in particular for our daughter but when we got there, they have prepared a box of toy blocks, toilet step stool, futon was ready on tatami floor with kids pillow, kids yukata, kids shampoo&body wash, kids bath sponge, and they even gave her a small toy as a present. It was a really nice gesture and surprise for us. The room was spacious, super clean and comfortable. The staff were all wonderful. Our daughter said she wants to live there forever. Me too. :D Thank you so much for your hospitality.

The room was really spacious and comfortable with pretty views. The shoji screen windows going all the way across made the light in the room really beautiful. Although our room had multiple beds and was suitable for a group/family, it was still cosy and romantic as a couple. The bathroom was especially spacious and we loved the bath/shower. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We spent our last night in the little tent on the rooftop terrace (open to all guests) where you can look out at Arashiyama at night. I wish we had been able to stay for longer!

We stayed there for 2 nights though my whole family with kid& seniors & us - a young couple all love how everything is organized from check-in, store luggages, rooms, check out & everything. Super comfortable & ideal location to walk and commute to all attractions, markets & shops. Staff are super friendly & helpful in responding to make sure your stay/ experience & commuting effortless. Highly recommend to all, esp to whom from the US/ new york because room quality can be compared to high rise lux apt in Manhattan, New York.

Le

Absolutely love the interior design of the room which contained traditional ryokan-ish style but updated with lighter wood. The room was very spacious. Attention was also spent on details for the door closer and door knobs. Very generous with the daily amenities in the toilets. Staff were very attentive and very helpful as they assisted in organising sending our luggage ahead to our next hotel stay in Osaka. They helped to measure and weigh our luggage as well as complete the forms for us. We will definitely return.
